Professional advice

The Seldén CXe is a two-speed electric furler for Code 0 sails and with a Seldén tack adaptor also for top-down furling gennakers. The CXe is available as an on-deck (OD) and through-deck (TD) installation. With the push of a button you smoothly furl or unfurl your Code 0 or gennaker — pulling on the furling line is a thing of the past.

Low power consumption

The CXe is designed for high efficiency throughout the electric power and control system. A sleep mode is automatically activated when the system is not in operation, keeping power consumption to a minimum.

Powerful with precise torque limitation

The electric motor has a computerised controller that monitors the current draw precisely. As soon as it reaches a pre-set level it cuts out quickly enough to avoid damage to components. The torque level is programmed into a memory chip. Peak torque is 50 Nm with a peak current consumption of 25A.

Two speed activation

The CXe has two speeds. Push the button corresponding to the desired direction and low speed (220 rpm unloaded) will be engaged. While holding, depress the other button simultaneously and high speed (500 rpm unloaded) will be engaged for rapid furling and unfurling.

Resistant to the marine environment

The CXe uses anodized 6000-series aluminium components. Plastic components are PC and PA, glass fibre reinforced and UV stabilized. The motor and reduction gear operates in an oil-filled and sealed aluminium housing. The drive units are individually pressure tested before delivery. On the TD version, a double seal between deck collar and drive unit prevents water intrusion.

Compact size, minimized weight

The electric motor is compact, still giving enough power. This is made possible by raising the voltage up to 42V. Keeping weight and dimensions in focus during the design has resulted in a remarkably small unit. A DC/DC converter (PSU, Power Supply Unit) converts the boatx27s 12V or 24V to 42V.

On-deck or through-deck

The CXe OD (on-deck) version is supplied with a snap shackle that must be secured to a rigid fixing point such as a pad eye. The CXe TD (through-deck) is mounted through the deck or through a bowsprit, resulting in a cleaner foredeck and reduced risk of damage.

Control Pack and SEL-Bus system

The CXe is used together with the Seldén Power Supply and SEL-Bus system. The drive unit is connected to a Motor Control Unit (MCU), which enables communication with the power supply unit and the IN/OUT push buttons. The CXe is either connected to an existing SEL-Bus system onboard (only requiring an additional MCU) or sold as a complete system.
